How to Do Spinal Flexion and Extension
This exercise may be performed by healthy exercisers who are able to twist the trunk without pain or physical limitations.
Be certain to perform this exercise as long as the good form may be maintained throughout. If you experience any pain, immediately discontinue this exercise.
To increase the intensity of this exercise, extend the left arm to the left to make it parallel with the floor. Twist toward the right side while reaching the left arm under the trunk. Return to the starting position continuing to reach the fingers toward the ceiling.
Beginning
Beginning Spinal Flexion and Extension
Position yourself on your hands and knees. Take the left hand and place it behind the head keeping the arms parallel to the floor.
Movement
Spinal Flexion and Extension Movement
1. Without twisting the waist or low back, rotate the upper torso so that the left elbow reaches toward the right hand. Then rotate the arm back to the starting position and reach the elbow toward the ceiling. Repeat this exercise for 5-10 repetitions. Switch and repeat this exercise on the right side.
